Greentherm addressed the building energy rating (BER) assessors AGM in the Red Cow Hotel on Friday the 6th of May. The AGM was attended by assessors from all over Ireland. There were technical presentations from several companies involved in the construction industry and also an address from televisions Duncan Stewart.

“I see BER assessors having a pivotal role in Irelands meeting its Co2 emission reduction target, as we improve the energy efficiency of our building stock”

Duncan also went through some of the figures that show how critical lowering our energy use is for our finances as individuals and as a country. He highlighted how 7 billion euro each year goes out of Ireland for importing energy, and with the increase in the price of in home heating of 20% year on year since 2006 he speculated that if the price increase continued by just 5% per annum then a household spending 1400 euro heating their home in 2009 would have spent over 10000 euro on home heating over the next 25 years.

Technical presentations were given by various heating product manufacturers, insulation providers and air tightness specialists. Enda Ruxton, Managing Director at Greentherm Ltd gave a presentation highlighting some areas where the DEAP software could conflict with energy efficient heating system design. Enda gave an overview of the various system designs being implemented in heating systems in todays market and provided a detailed analysis of the various pros and cons. He also presented a real life case study of running costs for a new build project utilising a control system developed at Greentherm.
